Orkney Camera Club members often enjoy a get together outside the normal camera club meetings for an opportunity to take photographs around Orkney.
So far we have visited Hoy for a weekend to shoot the stunning landscape there and take part in the local community Lifeboat launch. We have snapped some interesting natural history shots in the Berstane Woods on the outskirts of Kirkwall and had a night photography expedition in Stromness getting interesting results in the low light conditions.
While some of the longer, further away trips require forward planning, many of the other social gatherings have been organised relatively last minute an aim to make the best of the weather at the time. Members can get involved by posting a meeting idea on Facbook and getting other members on board. The images are great to view on one of the club evenings.
We usually have one final fling for the season where club members and judges are invited to attend a more formal gathering. Prizes are handed out on this evening and members get a chance to review the great images that have been entered into the competitions and exchanges throughout the season.
